Symposium on Carbon Composites to be held in December in Augsburg – heralding the “Experience Composites – powered by JEC” trade fair event the next year

26 Nov 2015
On 1st and 2nd December 2015, the Carbon Composites Symposium is to take place for the fifth time in Augsburg. This year, it will be held in the Messe Augsburg. The established event will become “Experience Composites – powered by JEC” in 2016, thus uniting the congress and the specialist trade fair of the symposium with on-site seminars and excursions on an even larger scale.

The Carbon Composites Symposium represents a knowledge and exchange platform concerning the industrial use of CFRP for Heads of Manufacturing and Production, Managing Directors and young scientists. It was founded by Carbon Composites e.V. (CCeV), which also guarantees the professional quality of the lectures. Last year, 200 registered participants and 20 exhibitors utilised the symposium for the intensive extension of knowledge and for networking purposes.

In the anniversary year of the Carbon Composites Symposium, several innovations were introduced. Holding the event at the Messe Augsburg means that there is more room for the exchange of knowledge and the presentation of exhibits as well as an outstanding infrastructure. It will start on 1st December from 13:00 hrs with a keynote speech and the official opening of the exhibition. After this, participants can select between an on-site tour of SGL Carbon or KUKA, and one of the tutorials provided. As is the case every year, the final part of the symposium is the get-together in the evening, this time in the Riegele Beer Manufactory. On 2nd December, specialist lectures and the exhibition can as usual be attended as part of a program which is subdivided into four specialist topics: CFRP in construction, CFRP in the aerospace industry, CFRP in Mechanical Engineering and CFRP for OEMs.

In this way, the symposium is already very similar to the “Experience Composites – powered by JEC” trade fair, which will take place from 21st to 23rd September 2016. This trade fair in “Multi-location format” was called into being by the Messe Augsburg together with the JEC Group and the CCeV. The internationally-orientated event thus represents a platform for the entire branch, focussing on mechanical and systems engineering, the aerospace industry, construction and infrastructure, medical technology, wind energy and the automotive and transport sectors.

The global fibre composite industry is growing rapidly (+ 5 % per year), and, as observers and representatives of the industry, we must determine that this development has only been possible thanks to the close links within the golden triangle consisting of the government, the industry and research, together with material and engineering sciences. Germany applies this model in the field of fibre composite materials perfectly. The “Experience Composites” initiative results from this synergy. When this German Golden Triangle proposed JEC to join, we accepted with interest.” says Mrs Frédérique Mutel, JEC Group President and CEO.

As one of the largest branch networks in lightweight construction, Carbon Composites e.V. and its top cluster MAI Carbon wish to provide a platform with the bi-annual Experience Composites in which innovative companies and institutions within this branch can display their enormous range of know-how. In Augsburg, we not only have a symposium and a trade fair on the subject, but also on-site tours and discussion and education groups. In this way, a completely new concept for presentation is implemented, which suits the innovative character of the branch and the location perfectly”, explains Professor Hubert Jäger, Chair of the CceV, talking about the intention of the network.

For “Experience Composites”, a new and path-breaking trade fair concept has been developed which has been agreed on in advance with numerous opinion leaders. The so-called “Multi-location format” comprises, in addition to the new Composites trade fair, a congress, visits from companies using the materials, scientific facilities, further education and training courses and community events at various locations in Augsburg. Fibre composite materials should be displayed in a transparent and palpable manner. Therefore, the “Experience Composites” represents a congenial further development of the Carbon Composites Symposium, which will continue to take place, as has already successfully been conducted, in the years between the Experience Composites trade fair.
