Symposium "Renewable raw materials for industry: contribution to sustainable chemistry" 2007
“Renewable raw materials have the potential to bring large economic, functional and environmental advantages to a range of industries”. This is the message of the two day Symposium “Renewable Raw Materials for Industry: Contribution to Sustainable Chemistry”, which takes place in the centre of European institutions in Brussels, Belgium.
The symposium will explore ways in which renewable raw materials from agricultural crops are increasingly driving the development of industrial biotechnology, bio-based products and sustainable chemistry. By helping these new and dynamic industries grow, renewable raw materials are contributing to Europe’s international competitiveness and move forward on the basis of the conclusions of the Lisbon European Council and explore options to contribute to the climate change policy as decided in March 2007 under the German presidency. Climate change will play a crucial role in future EU- Policy. To answer the question how renewable raw materials can also contribute to the ambitious aim, decided during the EU council meeting on March 2007 to reduce CO2 emissions substantially, this conference will additionally discuss such opportunities.
The symposium is prepared by ERRMA, in cooperation with SusChem, the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry, and supported by EuropaBio, the European Association for Bioindustries and COPA/COGECA. The Directorates General of Research, Enterprise and Industry, Environment and Agriculture of the European Commission as well as industry, agriculture and academic institutes will contribute to this conference.
