ROHACELL® PMI foam for Siemens AVANTO train


Jupiter Plast A/S of Denmark has built the first seven front ends for the series of the Siemens AVANTO train for Paris. The sandwich construction chosen incorporates a low density (50 kg/m³) structural PMI foam core. The core material´s choice was prompted by the specification, calling out for a halogen-free sandwich core. ROHACELL® 51 S perfectly fulfilled the fire, smoke and toxicity requirements and the structural requirements. Due to the excellent impact behaviour of the PMI foam, the required crash test, where a 60 t load crashed the front end, was passed with a very good result. The front end was presented to the public during the recent INNOTRANS expo in Berlin.
