Interplastic Corporation's thermoset resins division announced price increase
Steve Wetzel, National Sales Manager, and Daryl Francis, Business Manager West, announced that Interplastic Corporation’s Thermoset Resins Division is raising the prices of CoREZYN and Silmar brand products $0.09 per pound for shipments on or after October 29, 2005. This includes all vinyl ester, polyester, specialty resins, gel coats, colorants, and is in addition to previously announced increases.
"The catastrophic effects of Hurricane Rita on top of Katrina have put most of the polyester raw material stream in short supply,” explains Wetzel. “As much as 30% of ethylene, propylene, benzene and xylene capacities were shut down and remain either off-line or at substantially reduced rates of production. This has powerfully affected the ability to produce maleic anhydride, propylene glycol, styrene, ethylene glycol and other key materials needed for manufacturing polyester resins.”
"Additionally, electricity shortages, transportation issues and the lack of available manpower to run the facilities are hampering start-up,” continues Wetzel. “Many chemical companies have declared force majeure and have implemented allocations of materials. Rising natural gas costs are also playing a major roll in cost increases.”
Wetzel says Interplastic Corporation is doing everything it can to keep cost increases to a minimum and maintain a steady supply of product. “We appreciate your understanding and patience and we are dedicated to meeting the requirements of our customers and distributors during these difficult times.”
Interplastic’s Thermoset Resins Division is the manufacturer of CoREZYN and Silmar brand unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester, and specialty resins; gel coats, and colorants for the cast polymer, solid surface and composites industries. All CoREZYN and Silmar products are sold direct and through Interplastic’s extensive network of distributors in North America and around the world. Interplastic Corporation’s Thermoset Resins Division is ISO 9001:2000registered.
