New internal mould release for PU in-mould coatings

Axel Plastics Research Laboratories, Woodside NY announced a new internal mould release, MoldWiz INT-220IMC, designed for in-mould coatings used in RIM (reaction injection moulding) processes.
The proprietary formula is easily miscible in water-borne PU (polyurethane) coatings that are typically employed in RIM processes to achieve either finished, or primer painted surfaces on moulded PU parts. The addition of 1% of INT-220IMC (by weight) to PU in-mould coatings is sufficient to cleanly release these coatings from steel tooling and to significantly enhance release from composite tooling. In addition, in-mould coated PU parts that have incorporated INT-220IMC for mould release, have maintained excellent inter-laminar adhesion (between the coating surface and the PU RIM) and have demonstrated no interference in secondary painting or decorative treatments.
INT-220IMC, a proprietary condensation product of synthetic resins, glyceride, organic fatty acid derivatives and modified fatty acids, is suitable for aliphatic or modified aliphatic coatings that are typically applied by manual or robotic spray systems to moulds operating in the range of 150¢ªF/¢ªC. In these applications INT-220IMC has remained homogenous in solution and has exhibited minimal or low impact on dry time. Parts moulded with the incorporation of INT-220IMC in these applications were easily de-moulded in as little as 3 minutes and offered a de-moulding process window of as much as 3 hours.
