High Modulus boats take top six positions
Following three days of mixed conditions, High Modulus boats showed their form when they took the top six positions in IRC Division A of the 25th Bay of Islands Regatta in New Zealand last week.
With all of the Division A fleet measuring between 49-52ft, this regatta was the showdown that people expected, slated by some as the ‘best 50ft racing outside the TP52s’.
Five 'High Modders' (workers at High Modulus) took part in the regatta, with two on the winning boat, Wingz. “It was a great three days of racing; a bit light on Days 1 and 3, but Day 2 saw the sea breeze help the boats exceed 20 knots and competition was fiery,” said Sean Jeffery, Account Manager at High Modulus.
High Modulus carried out the structural engineering and supplied composite materials for all six boats, as well as boats in other divisions, with a range of construction methods chosen by the builders: for example, Wingz is made of resin infused carbon and foam core; whilst Outsider is wet-preg vacuum consolidated carbon with a Nomex honeycomb core.
