Failure and life of Composites - Internet course
After the success of the tutorial of the Composites Design Tutorial for Strength and Life Prediction in 2007 with 80 institutions and 304 participants…
Agencies included the Office of Naval Research, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Sandia National Laboratory, two NASA centers and ONERA. Companies included Boeing, General Electric, Lockheed-Martin, Northrop-Grumman, Raytheon, Goodyear, Goodrich, Rolls-Royce, Embraer, Hexcel, Gulfstream and other aerospace, wind turbine and sporting goods companies. Universities included MIT, Stanford, University of Delaware and several minority universities. Outside the US, Spain and Singapore had the most participation.
…is coming the next tutorial which will start April 8, 2008 and end 12 weeks later on June 24, 2008.
The basic format of two-lecture every Tuesday will remain; i.e., at 08:00 and 20:00 California time which correspond to 17:00 Tuesday in Paris and 10:00 Wednesday in Singapore.
Native language discussions will again be made available. The French session will be conducted by Dr. Thierry Massard, assisted by Roland Harry and Jean Paul Charles. This session will be held on Wednesdays at 17:00 Paris time. The Spanish session will be by Prof. Antonio Miravete, on Thursdays at 17:00 Madrid time. The Portugues session will be by Prof. Carlos Cimini on Fridays at 13:00 Sao Paul time. Chinese session will be by Prof. T.E. Tay, on Wednesdays at 10:00 Beijing time. Japanese session will be by Prof. Yasushi Miyano on Thursday at 11:00 Tokyo time.
The contents will be much improved, with better visual and audio qualities and earlier availability of viewgraphs with notes for download. Software will have better instructions, more examples and be available early. More solutions using the student edition of Simulia/Abaqus will also be provided, particularly among common test coupons and simple applications such as beams, panels, pressure vessels and shafts.
Reading assignments and software practice will be suggested, as recommended by a number of Tutorial 1 participants.
The standard option will be the same as Tutorial 1. For US$1,500 the participating institution will receive one connection with one participant free. Each additional participant beyond the first one will be charged US$150. As a new option, each additional connection at an extra charge of US$750 will be made available to those institutions desiring greater flexibility for its participants.
Fee includes textbook, Simulia/Abaqus student edition, design tools and free downloads of all documents/tools.
New subjects for Tutorial 2 include:
• out-of-plane strength and bolted joints
• new improved Super Mic-Mac+, and
• Mic-Mac/FEA (finite elements)
