Large scale tooling made by infusion
Norfolk based Polar Composites is now offering resin infusion to boost its service to customers.
The process has been introduced to enable the production of tooling for large scale work at a reduced cost. Polar Composites was set up by Mike Harris less than two years ago and already offers pre-preg hand lay up, wet lay up and light resin transfer moulding. Mike has been trained in the process and is passing his expertise onto his team.
“We came across the issue of tooling costs when quoting for a particular job and decided resin infusion was the best way to resolve it. We have since gained a contract to produce large panels for the marine industry which we hope will develop into further business,” he said.
“Our size enables us to be adaptable and creative, working with our clients to find the best, high quality solutions for their products,” he said.
Polar Composites is exhibiting at JEC Composites Show in Paris, France from April 1 to 3, 2008 for the fist time and can be found on Stand C27.
About Polar Composites Ltd
Set up under two years ago, Polar Composites is a specialist in carbon fibre composites based in Wymondham, Norfolk, UK. Mike Harris set up Polar Composites just two days before his 30th birthday, after 10 years of working in the composites industry and now has a team of eight working under him: “Our size enables us to be adaptable and creative, working with our clients to find the best, high quality solutions for their products,” he said.
Recently Polar Composites has been assisting in the design and production of innovative leisure products and sports equipment, and has won a number of contracts with clients in the marine, automotive and communications industries.
The company offers tooling and part design, as well as prototyping and manufacture. It has recently invested in equipment to offer resin infusion as well as pre-preg hand lay up, wet lay up and light resin transfer moulding. Its facilities also include an autoclave and a larger oven for products up to 5 metres long. It is the sole UK distributor for the Basler Lacke carbon coating system which gives a superb finish in a variety of colours.
