Courage Oreca LC70 prototype car makes a promising debut

© Huntsman
Less than one week after its official launch at the Mancelle factory of the Oreca Motorsport Company in France, the new Courage Oreca LC70 prototype racecar, developed and constructed using the latest Araldite composite materials and adhesives, has made a promising first competitive run at the 1000km Le Mans Series Test race held in Barcelona on 4-6 April 2008.
With two cars in the race, the Oreca drivers battled for a podium place for most of the race against the world’s leading Le Mans teams before gearbox problems forced them to run the final laps for race condition set-up purposes only.
The Oreca prototypes feature a completely new lightweight bodyshell and aerodynamic shape that have been developed using some of the most innovative rapid prototyping technologies available and with expert support from the Araldite® Technical Team. The Araldite and RenShape® materials, all supplied by Huntsman Advanced Materials, have been used at every stage of the car’s development – from stereolithography for concept modelling of parts, through to the production of extremely tough and complex finished parts using Araldite composite resin infusion systems and also Araldite adhesives for bonding many critical, high stress parts on the car.
“This has been a really positive weekend for the team, making progress on all aspects of the cars’ performance over the three days,” said Hugues de Chaunac, founder of Oreca. “Both we and the Araldite team are used to dealing with situations that demand the very highest performance from the technologies and materials available to us. Here at Barcelona, all the hard work and innovation we have put into the development of the Courage LC70 prototype cars is starting to pay off and we will be back working to improve this over the coming weeks.”
