EDF EN commissions 152 MW wind farm in Portugal

© EDF EN
EDF Energies Nouvelles has announced on April 21, 2008 the commissioning of the first 152 MW tranche of the Ventominho wind farm, which has 240 MW in total capacity.
Located in north-western Portugal on the Spanish border, the Ventominho project comprises 120 wind turbines (240 MW), 76 of which have now entered service, representing 152 MW in capacity. The 2 MW wind turbines were supplied by German manufacturer Enercon.
With 240 MW in total capacity, the Ventominho wind farm will be Europe’s largest onshore wind energy facility with a single point of connection to the grid. The wind farm is set to be fully operational by the end of 2008.
EDF EN Portugal, a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, and Eolverde, an Endesa subsidiary, together jointly own 85% of the project.
This latest commissioning has strengthened EDF Energies Nouvelles’ positions in the Portuguese wind energy market. The Group now boasts over 296 MW in gross (151 MW net) capacity in service, plus 112 MW at the Arada wind farm that is currently under construction and due to enter service by year-end 2008.
