Endurance under the hood
Ticona now has one more answer to increasing temperatures under the hood: Celstran PA66-GF50-02 HT. This new long-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic (LFT) has been specially developed for applications in air management and applications exposed to severe stress variations. Even at extreme temperatures, it exhibits very good aging behavior. This specially tailored material is suitable for components that were previously produced from PA46 or PPA or needs higher temperature resistance like HTN’s.
Extensive tests confirm the suitability of the new Celstran grade for use in hot service environments. The plastic offers impressively high stiffness and dimensional stability coupled with low creep at continuous temperatures of 210°C and short-term peaks up to 225°C. The Ticona polymer also significantly outperforms other plastics in terms of heat-aging resistance under sustained temperature stresses of up to 210°C. After 1000 hours under operating conditions, the optimized LFT still retains with more than 50% of its initial tensile stress at break.
The initial components produced from Celstran PA66-GF50-02 HT show very good test results in relation to stiffness/toughness ratio. At the same time, the components withstand a very high number of stress cycles – all signs that the modules under the hood will be able to provide reliable service long-term.
