New president for the Brazilian Composites Materials Association
On April 29, 2008, ABMACO – Brazilian Composites Materials Association – made a ceremony for for the annoucement of its new president, which will administrate the Association in the next two years (2008-2010).
The new president, Mr. Gilmar Lima, has 25 years of experience in the plastic market and intend on this mandate to consolidate the ABMACO image and importance for the growing of the Composites market. The intention of the new management is to realize a basis job, listening the necessities of all membership and of the market, create new opportunities for composites applications, looking for new technologies and process for the Brazilian market, giving priority to knowledge, not only for the molders, but also for customers an final users. The new management will give priority to the struggle by the insertion of the Composites classes in all Brazilian Universities, aiming for instructing and graduating our engineers, architects, designers and technicians.
“We will prepare a long term strategic plan for the association, with the objective to discuss basis questions for our mission, vision and values. What was done until now had a great importance, but the view is changing every moment and ABMACO will have to adapt to this new era. Our goal is to treble the number of membership, increases the number of capable professionals to work in this market and to turn ABMACO in a global association spreading his image and of the Brazilian companies in the internal and external market. Our expectation with all this actions is to generate higher credibility in the presence of the market as one and increase significantly the consumption of Composites in Brazil for the next years” emphasizes Mr. Gilmar Lima.
Nowadays there are 120 companies as ABMACO membership, which answer by the manufacturing and distribution of raw-materials and auxiliary products, give services and transform composites for several important segments in the Brazilian Economy. The composites market had in 2007 an increase around 20%, has been produced around 144 thousand tons. The segments which more export were: building, marine and automotive; seing that the civil building segment represents 20% for the tons produced in 2007. The prospect for 2008 are very favorable foreseen a growing of 15%, with the acceleration in the transport and civil building areas.
About ABMACO (Brazilian Composites Materials Association)
The nowadays ABMACO, the old Asplar established in 1981, with headquarter in São Paulo, has as main objective promote the development, support and publishing the composites market in Brazil. His efforts are focused in people and companies which direct or indirect, manufacturer, specify, use, consumption of composites materials and that are willing to contribute and promote the wholesome development of this chain. There are other denominations for composites, like as: fiberglass, reinforced plastic, PRFV, FRP and composed materials.
