14th SAMPE Germany symposium
Under the banner of "Fibres and Matrices" the 14th National SAMPE Symposium was held at the Technical University of Munich (Aero-space Faculty, Institute for Light-Weight Structures) from the 27th to 28th February 2008. With over 150 visitors the conference was very well attended. The lectures were structured in five thematic blocks and were aimed at participants from science and industry, particularly in the field of transport, aeronautics and space travel. Topics relating to material sciences, new matrix and C-fibre developments, process technology, automation and component development were presented and intensively discussed. A lively exchange of experience followed in small and larger groups during the coffee breaks and evening reception.
At the end of the first day's presentations the SAMPE Innovation Prize for outstanding scientific work was awarded. This year's recipients were Mr. Nikolaus Bätge for his work on the topic “Design and Verification of a Manufacturing Concept for Highly Integrated CFRP Cargo Door Frame Preforms" and Mr. Lars Lambrecht for his work on “Numerical experiments to investigate the influence on the degradation of GFRP laminates".
The next SAMPE Symposium is expected to take place in Berlin on the 18th and 19th of February 2009. Students and scientists are requested to submit entries (in the field of fibre composites) for the Innovation Award 2009 to SAMPE Deutschland e.V. by December this year.
