EDF Energies Nouvelles to build 5 wind farms in Canada

© EDF EN
The St-Laurent Energies consortium, comprising EDF Energies Nouvelles(60%), Quebec-based electricity producer Hydroméga (20%) and the constructor Renewable Energy Systems (20%), has been chosen by Hydro-Québec Distribution to build five wind farms with a total of 954 MW in capacity in Quebec.
Located in different regions of Quebec, the five wind farms, namely Aguanish - 80 MW, Massif du Sud - 150 MW, Lac Alfred - 300 MW, Rivière du Moulin - 350 MW and Clermont - 74 MW, are due to be commissioned between year-end 2011 and year-end 2015. They will be equipped with REpower turbines, each with 2 MW in unit capacity.
This selection represents a major milestone on the path towards implementation of this large-scale project, which will see EDF Energies Nouvelles building its first wind farms in Canada. The next steps notably consist in securing the various authorisations required from the government and building permits from the relevant municipal authorities.
These five wind farms represent a total investment of CAD2 billion, which will contribute to the dynamism of the Quebec economy and further boost the Group’s international growth momentum.
