Polinox grew by 18% in 2008

Despite the drop in sales in the end of the year – result from a combination between the economic crisis and December’s low demand history – Polinox achieved its goal and grew by 18% in 2008. Brazilian leader in organic peroxides and mold release wax manufacture, the company is also the exclusive distributor in South America of Syrgis, the largest North American manufacturer of peroxides.
“Broadly speaking, 2008's balance was positive up to the third quarter. Then, we felt the effects of such global economic crisis and the exchange oscillation”, says Roberto Pontifex, Polinox’s CEO. While they could, the automotive and construction industries boosted Brazilian composites consumption and, as a consequence, Polinox’s mold release wax and organic peroxides. “And the participation of the foreign market in our balance remained leveled most of the year, which helped us to achieve such goal estimated for the beginning of 2008”. Thus, as well as the last two years, exports represented 8-10% of Polinox monthly sales volume.
Regarding foreign sales, company narrowed even more its contact with foreign customers at Feiplar, the main Latin America event of composites segment – held in November, in São Paulo. “We also made new contacts that shall generate business in 2009, as long as U.S. currency suffers no oscillations”, believes Pontifex.
For 2009, Polinox forecasts the end of the expansion of tankage area and raw material storage. Last August, the company acquired a 5,000 m² land next to the industrial complex that operates in Itupeva, São Paulo’s countryside, where new plants shall be build up. Now, Polinox has a capacity to produce 210 tons of organic peroxide per year and 20 tons/year of mold release wax.
“In view of such negative forecasts for next year, we will be glad if we repeat 2008's performance. In order to make this possible, we shall focus on the search for new customers in the domestic market and the consolidation of our participation abroad”, concludes Polinox’s CEO.
About Polinox
Polinox is the leading Brazilian manufacturer of organic peroxides and mold releases waxes – raw materials necessary to produce composites (combination between thermoset resins and mechanical strengthening, such as fiberglass). With over three decades of experience, Polinox started out producing gelcoat, and left this market ten years ago, when this operation was sold to an international group.
From then on, Polinox has been working exclusively with organic peroxides and mold release waxes. Its factory, located in Itupeva – 70 km from São Paulo – has modern equipment and a completely secure structure to produce these special chemicals. Operating nationwide, Polinox has a portfolio of more than 800 composites manufacturers.
