Gurit launches several products


Gurit was promoting during the JEC Show 2009 several new products dedicated to Wind Energy, Aerospace & Marine markets.

WIND ENERGY
SparPreg™
Developed for demanding structural applications, SparPreg™ is a UD prepreg for use in thick laminate sections. The excellent material breathability produces laminates of exceptional quality with low void content, without the need for debulking or additional dry fabric reinforcement to aid air removal. This allows the component manufacturer to increase productivity, and reduce weight and cost.
SparPreg™ has been specially formulated to achieve the outstanding in-cure and mechanical performance of the WE91 prepreg systems, and therefore retains the high flow performance and Diuron free characteristics of the WE range.

Sprint® IPT
Gurit has developed Sprint® IPT, an all-in-one, in-mould surfacing solution for wind turbine blade production. The technology aims to significantly reduce manufacturing time thereby making prepreg blade production an increasingly cost-effective process route. Many manufacturers of composite components currently adopt prepreg technology to produce composite blades. Gurit supplies epoxy prepreg and gelcoat products to produce these high quality parts.
Sprint® IPT takes these traditional methods of manufacture to the next level and incorporates the individual benefits of both products making a unique all-in-one solution based around Gurit’s patented Sprint technology.
Sprint® IPT is a multi-layer product, supplied on a roll, comprising of a Sprint® multiaxial material and new high performance surfacing film. When cured the film provides a tough and abradable surface that can be painted directly onto thus reducing production time, costs and increasing product quality. 

AEROSPACE
Gurit PB1000 – Re-inventing aircraft interior prepregs
PB1000 is a modified benzoxazine resin that boasts zero formaldehyde and phenol residue, satisfying the most recent environmental standards like Airbus AP2091. It features a non-volatile rapid cure, generating a perfect void and porous free surface, through which time and cost consuming rework is eliminated.
Gurit’s novel PB1000 fully complies with demanding international JAR/FAR fire protection regulations regarding flammability, smoke, toxicity (FST) and heat release. Due to its excellent mechanical performance, PB1000 is perfectly suited to fulfil present and forthcoming stress criteria for interior design.
Meeting increasing demands on cost efficiency in aircraft interior manufacturing, PB1000 is also designed for commonly used fast hot-in / hot-out curing processes.
Gurit’s PB1000 was recently nominated as a finalist in the JEC Innovations Awards 2009. 

EP137 - Flooring Prepregs
Gurit has successfully introduced its advanced range of unidirectional carbon fiber EP137-CR527 prepregs for the AIRBUS A380 passenger floor. Perfectly suitable for lightweight composite panels, they meet the highest requirements of structural interior applications and increasing cost saving demands.
These prepregs are especially designed for automated lay-up processing and due to its unique technical and economic performance, this class of Gurit prepregs will be a perfect choice for future aircrafts such as the Airbus A350.

MARINE
Spabond Adhesives
Spabond 540 PB is a high-performance, modified epoxy adhesive designed for bonding large production boats. The adhesive is formulated to bond polyester and is easy to use, has increased working times, compared to polyester & methacrylate adhesives and consistently provides a high strength and durable bond to a variety of substrates in the production environment.

Fire retardant epoxy wet laminating system
Ampreg 21FR is a fire retardant epoxy wet laminating system which has been formulated to meet the requirements of UL94VO test standard. With a range of working times and a good cure progression from ambient only cures Ampreg 21FR is ideal for wet laminating large composite structures and has been formulated to give good Health & Safety characteristics.
Ampreg 21FR has been optimised for the manufacture of large composite structures using hand layup, and vacuum bagging techniques. It has been designed to give excellent mechanical and thermal properties from both ambient temperature cures, and moderate temperature postcures (50°C). This system is availa ble with a range of hardener speeds, from Fast to Extra Slow.

Tooling Paste for Marine Plugs
T-Paste 70-1 can be used with a range of mixing machines and has been formulated to give excellent application and CNC machining properties. The product gives a high quality surface finish, which significantly reduces the finishing times for large patterns and direct moulds. The high toughness and excellent adhesion of T-Paste 70-1 to High Density Expanded Polystyrene (HD EPS) make this product ideal for customers and subcontract tooling companies who require a cost effective and robust solution for pattern/ mould production.
T-Paste 70-1 is complemented by the unique T-Paste 70-1 repair product, which provides a seamless repair and same performance for patterns produced using T-Paste 70- 1, ensuring that the repairs are not visible on the pattern surface and will not print on the mould surface.

Fire retardant Sprint system
ST70 FR is a fire retardant structural laminating product, part of the patented Sprint® range, suitable for use in the high volume manufacture of hulls, decks and bulkheads. ST70 FR is rated as a best-possible Class 0 to BS476 Pt 6&7, provides excellent mechanical properties, long outlife and ultra-low void content laminates from vacuum-bagonly processing.

Epoxy Wet Laminate Systems
Ampreg 21 has been optimised for the manufacture of large composite structures using hand layup, and vacuum bagging techniques. The relatively low initial mixed viscosity of Ampreg 21 allows easy wetout of heavyweight reinforcements and has been formulated to offer a good Health and Safety product. Ampreg 21 has been designed to give excellent mechanical and thermal properties from both ambient temperature cures and moderate temperature postcures (50°C). The system is available with a range of hardener speeds, from Fast to Extra Slow.
