New fire resistant composite deck system for navy ships
KaZaK Composites, Inc., a premier provider of high value-added composite engineering and design, announced on June 08, 2009 it has created a new system to provide valuable space for HVAC, piping and electrical wiring components that saves money on acquisition costs and maintenance but also meets stringent fire, smoke and toxicity requirements. KaZaK has developed a pultrudable syntactic phenolic reinforced core that is efficiently installed and easy to maintain that also resists chipping and breaking.
"One requirement of the Navy is that this system is versatile enough to withstand reconfiguration of space layouts for different missions," notes Jerry Fanucci, President/CTO of KaZaK Composites. "Because the installation is simplified and the material we've developed is so durable, the product will be able to withstand multiple configurations over time. This will result in significant cost savings to the Navy on acquisition and maintenance."
Pultrusion manufacturing automation offers cost savings in the production of the deck tiles, further lowering acquisition costs. Additionally, by using this production technique lead times on product are also cut significantly.
