Fibermaq launches a pultrusion machine

Although the capital goods segment was significantly affected by the economic crisis, the Brazilian company Fibermaq decided to carry out its launches scheduled for 2009. Thus, company has just launched Pulltech, a machine that process composites through the pultrusion process.
“The expansion of our portfolio was one of the ways we’ve found to go through this difficult period”, says José Batista de Andrade, CEO. In 2009, Fibermaq launched Spirit, a device that measures the residual barrier thickness of composite tanks; several accessories to the RTM process; the Assisted Infusion System and the machine for application of up to four gelcoat colors simultaneously, called Fibermaq Multicolors. "All these innovations, in addition to Pulltech, shall represent approximately 20% of our revenues in the period", he estimates. Most of company’s sales are spray-up equipment, conventional gelcoaters, RTM machines and polyurethane injectors.
Developed with the support of the consultant Carlos Viegas – one of the greatest Brazilian specialists in pultrusion – Pulltech has two versions. The simplest enables the manufacture of profiles up to 90 mm wide, with 1,000 kg maximum traction – which is the case, for example, of fishing rods. As for the more robust version, the machine is able to transform parts from 80 to 500 mm wide, with up to 10 tons traction. “This is a versatile equipment, it allows the manufacture of both solid profiles and square or round pipes”, says Andrade, reminding that the profile handles can be either hydraulic or pneumatic.
Easy to operate, Pulltech can be provided with PLC touch screen and an electrical or mechanical device to control the pultrusion power. “Overall, Brazilian pultruders assemble their own machines or import very expensive models. Pulltech will be a cheaper option than imported ones, though much more sophisticated than handcrafted ones”, concludes Fibermaq’s CEO.
