Carbon-based pultruded profiles: a cost-saving solution for Aeronautics
Structil, a SNPE (80%) and Mitsubishi Rayon (20%) subsidiary, attended the International conference on carbon-based composite materials held in Arcachon from 27th to 29th October 2009. Structil made a presentation on pultrusion techniques applied to the manufacture of aeronautical components.
In addition to the now standard processes such as RTM (Resin Transfer Moulding), manual or automatic prepeg lay-up, filament winding and pultrusion allow a high production rate for parts. The variety of feasible profiles is increasing and opening to the pultrusion application field.
Some examples are: actuator rods, composite fuselage strainers, missile airfoils, fuel pipes with controlled electrical conductivity, etc.
Major advantage of this process: approximately 20 to 30% cost reduction in relation to other production processes for a given part.
About Structil
Structil is a subsidiary of SNPE Matériaux Energétiques (GROUPE SNPE) (80%) and MRC (Mitsubishi Rayon, Co) (20%). Structil is an acknowledged specialist in high-performance technical composites for aeronautics, sports, leisure activities and industry. Located in Vert-le-Petit, Essonne, Structil proposes a range of half-finished products based on the use of carbon fibers and thermosetting resins.
