Polinox expects a 10% growth for this year
The largest Brazilian manufacturer of peroxides and mold release wax, Polinox, works with an expectation to grow 10% this year. According to Roberto Pontifex, CEO, such increase will be assured by combining the growing economy and Polinox progress in niches that consume more sophisticated products and, therefore, with more robust margins.
“Everything indicates that the Brazilian economic scenario will be favorable to the industry in 2010. In parallel, we consolidated our presence in manufacturers specialized in RTM and infusion, processes that are more open to the use of peroxides blends, which are considered specialties”, he said.
The foreign market also helps keeping the positive mood at Polinox. Last year, the company shipped to several countries in South America almost 200 tons of peroxides, 50% higher than in the previous year, which has led to “Prêmio Exporta São Paulo” award, granted by the Federation of Trade Associations of the State of São Paulo (FACESP). “Even with the Brazilian currency appreciation, our foreign sales may grow 20% due to the implementation of the business started in the last months of 2009”, he calculates.
From the point of view of investments in the period, Pontifex highlights the end of the process of full automation of the plant that Polinox owns in Itupeva (São Paulo), the largest of its kind in South America – it has the capacity to produce 240 tons of peroxides and 10 tons of mold release wax per month. “We have established a system known as the ‘operations interlocking’. With it, we significantly reduce the risk of accidents, especially during the production of peroxides”, he explains.
Growth, despite everything
Similarly to the great majority of companies, Polinox was also affected by the economic crisis of 2009, especially during the turbulent first half. But when the dust settled, there was time to recover sales and close the year celebrating a 7.5% growth. For Pontifex, the key was to keep the prices of peroxides, which raw materials were imported in part, during the U.S. dollar appreciation in the beginning of the year. “As we have a lean structure, we prefer to assimilate the increases than to repass them. It gave us a chance to face the most acute moments of the crisis”, he said.
About Polinox
Polinox is the leading Brazilian manufacturer of organic peroxides and mold release waxes – raw materials necessary to produce composites (combination between thermoset resins and mechanical strengthening, such as fiberglass). With over three decades of experience, Polinox started out producing gelcoat, and left this market ten years ago, when this operation was sold to an international group. From then on, Polinox has been working exclusively with organic peroxides and mold release waxes. Its plant, located in Itupeva – 70 km from São Paulo – has modern equipment and a completely secure structure to produce these special chemicals. Operating nationwide, Polinox has a portfolio of more than 700 composites manufacturers.
