Bombardier announces aggressive plan to bolster support in Asia-Pacific

Bombardier Aerospace unveiled on the 16th of July its plan to invest $30 million US to support the growing fleet of Bombardier business and commercial aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region. This action comes in response to the rapid growth in the continent’s aviation market in recent years and will further bolster Bombardier’s current presence in the region.

Bombardier’s planned investment is the first phase of its aggressive plan to build a comprehensive service and support network for the Asia-Pacific region, which will be centered in China and supported by satellite support facilities throughout the region. This model will be one of three “hub and spoke” service and support zones established worldwide.

“Bombardier has long recognized the importance of developing a strong presence in the Asia-Pacific region,” said James Hoblyn, President, Customer Services & Specialized and Amphibious Aircraft, Bombardier Aerospace. “We expect our fleet of Bombardier business and commercial aircraft to grow significantly over the next five years, and we want to be certain that we provide the highest level of support to our customers.”

By the end of this year, Bombardier will open a parts depot in Greater China. This depot will complement Bombardier’s existing depots located in Narita, Japan; Beijing, China; Sydney, Australia; and Singapore. Bombardier will unveil further plans to expand its support network in the coming months.

“We recognize that having parts in close proximity to our operators and in-region support is integral to the satisfaction of our business and commercial aircraft customers,” said Mr. Hoblyn. “Geography and customs regulations can present challenges to fast parts delivery, and we expect our actions to further improve our performance.”

Bombardier already boasts a prominent presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Bombardier currently has 33 customer service and support personnel and 16 Bombardier-owned and authorized facilities in the region, including a recently inaugurated Regional Support Office (RSO) in Mumbai, which supports business and commercial aircraft customers.

Business Aircraft
In addition to its increased investment in parts inventory for Learjet, Challenger and Global business aircraft, Bombardier will add an RSO in Hong Kong by the first quarter of 2011. This RSO will complement Bombardier’s business aircraft sales office in Hong Kong and three Authorized Service Facilities in the region.
In April 2010, the first regional M&O conference for Bombardier Business Aircraft owners and operators in the Asia-Pacific region was held in Hong Kong, with the intention of returning to the region in two years. Bombardier also plans on holding customer briefings in Sydney and Melbourne in the first quarter of 2011.

Commercial Aircraft
Since 2007, Bombardier has expanded its RSO in Shanghai and opened additional RSOs in Tokyo, Sydney and, most recently, Mumbai. Bombardier has also recently grown its team at the RSO in Sydney, adding a Supplier Liaison Account Manager and two In-Service Structure Engineers. It also plans to add six additional resources at its Shanghai and Mumbai RSOs by the end of 2010.

Bombardier Customer Services and Support has been hosting regional conferences in China and Japan for over five years with the focus on providing regional operators with tailored support and addressing regional matters.

There are currently over 140 Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft and more than 250 Q-Series and CRJ Series aircraft within the Asia-Pacific region.
