Carbon Nexus is an international centre of excellence for fibre sciences, materials and manufacturing research and is enhancing Australia's capability in the carbon fibre industry. The facility will act as a hub connecting academia, industry, research and teaching with the ultimate goal of producing cost-effective and innovative solutions for the carbon fibre and composites industries. The $34M centre will soon incorporate a 20 p.a. carbon fibre pilot line and single-tow research line, in addition to a range of state-of-the-art, fully equipped research laboratories. The facilities include a specialist fibre testing area, as well as processing, testing and characterisation equipment. Carbon Nexus will deliver a dedicated open access research facility capable of producing carbon fibre for aerospace and industry as well as enabling research into the chemical, mechanical and nanoscale characteristics of the carbon fibre product.
