COMPOSITES SKILLS ALLIANCE

The Composites Skills Alliance is a partnership of organisations led by the National Skills Academy Process Industries and Semta, the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies.

The Alliance was established in early 2011 in response to the following issues affecting the UK composites industry

  • Limited current resources to meet demand forecast - particularly advanced technicians across design, engineering and production functions
  • Many existing courses and qualifications do not include composites units reflecting limited delivery capability in further education, higher education and industry
  • Industry's immediate needs are for re-skilling and up-skilling the existing workforce through workplace and specialist courses
  • Industry increasingly demands consistent standards of course delivery and content across all composites sectors, providing a foundation for future professional standards and composites apprenticeships
  • Strong provider cooperation is necessary to remove duplication and focus on growth of specialist delivery expertise, able to meet local industrial needs
  • Composites skills must be aligned to the emerging needs of industry and lead the growth of cross-sector capability
