Lightweight design Assembly of large FRP structures. The Fraunhofer Project Group Joining and Assembly FFM is based at the research centre CFK Nord in Stade. Fraunhofer FFM develops and automates assembly processes for aviation, rail vehicle industry, ship yards, automotive, and wind turbine manufacturers to meet the individual requirements of customers. This involves technologies such as adhesive bonding, bolting, high precision drilling, trimming, and surface milling. Integrated system solutions as well as assembly concepts are developed and can be tested and optimized on a 1:1 scale in a 4000 m2 hall (15 m height). The section Plasma Technology and Surfaces PLATO at Fraunhofer IFAM develops and implements new release systems based on plasma technology. Customers are assisted with their process development work, pre-series activities and pilot plant construction for fine-cleaning, surface activation and surface coatings.
