The Fraunhofer ICT is continuously expanding its research in composite process technologies. Several exhibits show this extensive know-how, including parts manufactured by pultrusion, resin transfer moulding (RTM) samples and sandwich structures produced by polyurethane fibre spraying. In addition, emphasis is placed on process optimization and the further development of high-volume processes for producing sheet moulding compound (SMC) or long-fibre-reinforced thermoplastics (LFTs), as well as injection moulding. Also aiming at high-volume production, a direct foam extrusion process is the most recent addition to the available technologies. The combination of these complex processes, such as thermoplastic tape-laying combined with foam injection moulding, are key competences at the Fraunhofer ICT.
