The Suragus GmbH is a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Nondestructive Testing, Dresden and provides non-contact, non-destructive testing equipment for quality assurance of CFRP/ carbon fiber materials.
The testing technology is capable of characterizing the individual layers of multi-axial carbon fiber composites such as tri- or quadraxial fabrics. Further RCF, woven or non-crimp carbon fabrics, fleece or braids and end-products (CFRP) can be investigated. High-resolution sensors allow to determine quality parameters such as fiber orientation, spacing, distribution or determination of the basis weight or thickness of the carbon composite structure. Also, defects such as undulations, gaps, misalignment, wrinkles can be detected.
Advantage: The separation of the individual layers and the determination of the error location (location, depth or layer number) are key advantages of the method.
