JEC INNOVATION AWARDS PROGRAM 2011
9 COMPANIES REWARDED FOR THEIR COMPOSITE INNOVATIONS
JEC Composites is announcing the new winners of the JEC Innovation Awards Program 2011.
“With the Asian economic boom, new composites technological innovations can be expected to make their presence felt more keenly across the region over the long term” announces Mrs Frédérique Mutel, JEC President and CEO. She comments: “This trend has begun in the last decade with China, South Korea and India R&D budgets expanding at rates substantially higher than those of the U.S. and Europe”.
Innovation concerns small and big size companies, and most of them come from Middle-East and Asia Pacific. JEC Asia Awards event gather four main categories. Firstly in construction and infrastructures, a project for water supply systems in China and Africa, where people are faced with water shortages or water leaks. Then in transportation, by utilizing renewable materials to ensure less impact on the environment and to face to the need for lightness and strength. The third category is Eco-friendly with products which are healthy to the environment and last but not least category is Student Research on carbon applications.
She adds: “Global research and development (R&D) spending is expected to increase by 3.6 percent in 2011 to $1.2 trillion” which shows composite materials are going for take-off.
Over the past 14 years, the JEC Innovation Awards Program has involved 1,600 companies worldwide. 157 companies and 359 partners have been rewarded for the excellence of their composite innovations based on their technical interest, market potential, partnership, financial impact and originality. The objective is to promote the most effective composite solutions that create more value for end users.
This year, 9 companies and their partners will receive awards at the JEC Composites Show in Singapore (October 18-20, 2011).

The 2011 Innovation Awards competition is supported actively by UMECO Composites (Official Partner), Aviation Week & JEC Composites magazine (Press partner). This year, plentiful applications come from Middle-East and Asia Pacific, but the interesting notice is the number of candidatures we received from North America and Europe.
