JEC ASIA 2009

Vestas, Dr Srikanth Narasimalu, Technical Director (Singapore): “The JEC Conference is the best as far as composites are concerned. It is very focused and covers all sorts of topics on advanced materials, composites and related technologies. The conference gives us a way of instilling awareness in the company, which is remarkable in my opinion. There is no other conference that can replace JEC. I would say this is the only conference in Asia that talks about products and applications under the same roof, while sharing knowledge in the fastest way. This will help to close the gap between innovation and application.

DLR, Martin Wiedeman, Director & Head of the Institute (Germany): “The aim of my presentation was to give an idea about the future maintenance process of CRFP structures, which is very different from the maintenance process for metal structures. It is an opportunity to create awareness on the one hand and to have open discussions with experts on the other hand. We can work together to establish the automated processes that we need. The JEC conference provides such opportunities, which is why I am very interested in returning”.

Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Dr Muhammad Iqbal Hussain, Lecturer, School of Manufacturing Engineering (Malaysia):“JEC is the best forum as we can interact with people from all over the world. They are experienced and know a lot about composite manufacturing processes. So this is a chance to interact with the global community. They have one purpose, namely to produce cost-effective components with less scrap. How can we reduce variations in our processes? And how can we come up with reliable components with the best quality? I am very grateful, very thankful to the JEC team who has given me the chance to speak with experienced people from around the globe”.

Nanocyl, Thibaud Vaugien, Structural Composites Sales and Marketing Manager: “The key to carbon nanotubes in the aerospace sector is their multi-functionality. This is a unique feature of this technology. Carbon nanotubes will lead to many breakthroughs in aerospace applications. It was important to say this at the JEC Forums because people need to realize that these solutions are industrial, not just a lab dream. It is all about making industrial applications reality”.

Henkel, Rich Beck, Global Market Manager (Germany): “The future of wind blades will mean there will be more demand for durability; a 20-year lifespan is expected. Today’s adhesives might not be the most competitive at the moment, so we came up with a few ideas, one of which is a polyurethane system that needs GE approval. The industry is currently using lots of epoxy and vinylester resins and adhesives. We definitely think we can bring these customers some potential value, help them save money and improve their output. That’s the main reason why we are here today”.

TPI, Stephen Nolet, Principal Engineer (USA): “For me, it is just a pleasure to be able to educate more people to cross-pollinate ideas and trade information so that we can expand our industry. What we need is the technology and information to be disseminated in a way that more people are applying these technologies in a more robust and safe manner”.

Hanyang University, Dr Sung K. Ha, Dpt. of Mechanical Engineering, Director of the Structures and Composites Lab (South Korea): “This is a great exhibition and conference. We can share our experience while exchanging knowledge and information. I really recommend that everybody come to JEC and share the vision of a greener global world”.
