In recent years the emphasis on carbon footprint reduction combined with the fluctuating oil price has increased the attractiveness of bio-derived materials. An area which has seen significant development and increasing industry interest in recent years is bio-derived thermoset resins for composites.
This event will seek to bring together expertise and showcase some recent advances and new materials in this area. Presentations will cover generation of chemicals from biomass, through development of new resins and understanding their properties, including several case studies where bio-derived resins have been used in composite parts for automotive, marine and rail applications. There will also be information on funding, including a competition on high value chemical manufacture using bio-derived feedstocks, and discussions to identify industry concerns, key markets and potential collaborations for developing products.
The event which will take place on 17 September 2013 in London, is organised by the Materials KTN in conjunction with the Industrial Biotechnology Leadership Forum, the Biocomposites group of Composites UK and the NNFCC.
