Air Asia received the world's first Composites Sharklet Airbus A320 aircraft

Last month, Airbus has delivered the world's first Sharklet Airbus A320 aircraft to Malaysia Air Asia.

Air Asia thus became the world's first airline operating Sharklet Airbus A320. At present, Sharklet is the selected standard configuration for Airbus A320 series aircrafts.


Sharklet is a new generation large winglet designed by Airbus. It is made of composite material with a height of 2.4 meters. Sharklet achieved the objective of reducing emissions and fuel saving through the improvement of aircraft aerodynamic performance. In addition to bring 4% fuel efficiency increase for the users, Sharklet can also provide A320 series aircraft additional about 100 nautical miles (185 km) voyage, and an 450 kg increased payload.


Due to very high customer demand for Sharklet, all Airbus single aisle aircraft final assembly line (including current French Toulouse, German Hamburg and China Tianjin assembly lines as well as the future Mobile Alabama assembly line in the United States) will all assembly Sharklet A320 aircraft series to meet the market needs.


Air Asia currently operates more than 100 Airbus A320 series aircrafts. They are based in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila and Tokyo respectively and fly around Asia routes connecting different cities.
