JEC Europe 2014 - Automated technology is relevant to a variety of industrial sectors but requires further development to improve its effectiveness.

In July 2013, the Irish Centre for Composites Research (IComp) began a long-term project, designed to develop the effectiveness of such technology and invested in an ATP (Automated Tape Placement) high-spec robot.

This state-of-the-art laser powered robot which has been installed at the University of Limerick, Ireland, is unique on the island and is one of less than 7 known to be in European technology centres. IComp has the necessary scientific and engineering expertise to drive this technology forward to give Ireland a leading edge position in the robotic manufacture of composite parts for use in a variety of industrial sectors as diverse as aerospace, renewable energy, offshore oil & gas and high-end automotive.
