JEC Group have brought together the international community of composites leaders and executives in our Composites Circle as an unique networking opportunity to meet with both peers and future partners.
The University of Itajai in Santa Catarina (UNIVALI), Brazil completed the graduation of the first class of 2014 on Boat Construction in Composite Material.
This is a pioneer initiative to offer a composite education for boat community and it is supported by ACOBAR-Brazilian Boatbuilder Association. The Composite Boat Building Program at UNIVALI provides a broad education in the rapidly evolving field of composite construction. The course is taught through lecture, lab and construction of one or more composite one-design boats. Students learn how to use modern composite materials, construction processes, mold and prototyping construction, scantling calculations, 2D and 3D drawings, mechanical testing and construction details. Also the lectures include the study the strength, stiffness and structural mechanics of many different materials options, so they are knowledgeable about the range of choices available to today’s boat builders. They are given instruction in the fabrication of those materials, from hand layup to vacuum-infusion in both open and closed-molding environments.Required reading includes the following books by Jorge Nasseh, chief engineer at Barracuda Advanced Composites and Vice-President of ACOBAR: 'Composite Boatbuilding Manual', 'Advanced Methods in Composite Construction' and 'Theory and Practice of Composite Processing'. All books are written in Portuguese.More information:www.barracudacomposites.com.br
