JEC Europe 2012 - Clariant offers a broad range of non-halogenated flame retardants under the trade name Exolit that address customers' growing environmental awareness.

The Exolit range is known for its total resin-flame retardant integrity even under harsh conditions and in sophisticated applications. The new flame retardants Exolit EP 150 (LP) and Exolit EP 200 (LP) were especially developed for application in thermosetting epoxy resins.

Both products show superior performance as reactive flame retardants and can be combined with bisphenol A-based epoxy resins and epoxy phenol novolacs. Both products are easy to use in epoxy thermosets as they show a broad compatibility. In addition, Exolit EP 150 is a low-viscosity liquid suitable as a flame retardant for infiltration processes. With their high phosphorus content, these two products outperform conventional flame retardants for epoxies.

Therefore, UL 94 V-0 requirements can be achieved at a low dosage of flame retardant in the epoxy system. The glass transition temperature, which is a crucial parameter in epoxy chemistry, is less influenced by the two new products.
