Composite Automation Show: “Automated Process Chains for Carbon Composites”

News International-French

8 Oct 2012

JEC Americas - JEC together with the Technical University Munich and the University Stuttgart will present an integrated process chain for carbon composite structural parts by a poster and video presentation at the upcoming JEC Americas in Boston.

Carbon Composites with its outstanding specific material properties are used today for high performance light weight structures in several industries. Regarding today’s and tomorrow’s ecological requirements there will be more structural parts made out of composite materials in service in the future. Along with the increasing amount of composite application the economic challenges of this material system have to be addressed. Especially in the automotive and the civil engineering industry high volume production rates can be realized only by automated and cost efficient process chains.

In the past years different innovations regarding fast curing matrix systems and process technologies or automated textile performing technologies were developed in public private partnership R&D programs as well as in public funded basic research projects. Currently several initiatives address the transfer of these technologies from laboratory level to industrialized solutions. Therefore the individual technologies have to be connected to an integrated process chains.

JEC together with the Technical University Munich and the University Stuttgart will present an integrated process chain for carbon composite structural parts by a poster and video presentation at the upcoming JEC Americas show in Boston.

The presented poster show covers the entire process chain – from carbon fiber production to end-of-life recycling of structural parts. The individual posters comprise topics from different companies which are specialized on specific technologies and products. Beyond the single technologies and innovations each focusing on a dedicated process step the entire presentation shows an approach for an integrated process chain.

In parallel to the poster and video display of the different companies and institutes the Technical University Munich and the University Stuttgart present the latest research and technology results on integrated composite automation solutions at the Technical Sales Presentation of JEC.

The Composite Automation Show is organized by JEC in cooperation with the Institute for Carbon Composites (LCC) of the Technical University Munich and the Institute for Aircraft Design (IFB) of the University Stuttgart.

Industrial research partners of the Composite Automation Show are: SGL Carbon, Zünd, Manz Automation, Boll Automation, Tajima, Hilger und Kern, Sika Deutschland, FhG Projektgruppe Funktionsintegrierter Leichtbau.
