Specialist engineering and manufacturing company Formaplex announced that it had increased production space by a further 30% with the opening of a new 15,000 ft2 factory.
The market leading pattern manufacturing part of Formaplex has been relocated into this new factory from Havant. In addition further investment of £750,000 has been made in the pattern manufacturing business, with the order today of two new large CMS Aries 4826 5-axis-machines.
To capitalise on this expansion and investment, additional staffing has been hired both in the office and in manufacturing, and also in the design team to boost its capacity in pattern and tooling design. The new facility also boasts a separate inspection room and the whole facility benefits from high capacity dust extraction. This is the latest development at Formaplex.
In a busy twelve months the company has doubled its manufacturing floor space to 85,000 sq. ft., invested an additional £1,750,000 in three other five axis machining centres and two large injection moulding machines of 650t and 1,500t clamp force and has created 40 new jobs. In addition to expansion within the pattern manufacturing business, the space vacated following themove is being used to expand the company’s tool making and metallic machining facilities. On the machining side it has invested in 2 DMG monoblock 5 axis machines to complement their current machines and aid the expansion of the aero work that is currently undertaken for the motorsport and wind tunnel industry. These two machines are due on site in the next few days.
Managing Director Michael Last adds: ‘Formaplex provides specialist manufacturing services to many of the UK’s leading automotive, autosport and industrial companies and our recent investments support our strategy to service these demanding customers by combining leading edge technology, modern facilities with the very best people.’
Formaplex has enjoyed rapid growth since its inception eleven years ago. The business was founded on the requirement for rapid manufacture of composite tooling and pattern work to support Formula 1 and other motorsport series. The company now has a much wider service offering with composite tooling solutions, injection-mould tooling, and more recently the manufacture of plastic components and large component machining for military vehicles including the MOD’s Foxhound.
'Despite Formaplex’s size and rapid expansion, each area of our business has remained focused and dynamic, which has allowed us to cope with the ever changing requirements of modern manufacture and the challenges that this brings. “Our technical ability and the skill of our workforce, in combination with good old fashion hard work, has allowed us the opportunity to grow and stake our claim as one of the premier providers to motorsport and other industries’ says Composite Director Jon Payne, who together with Rob Carter runs the new 24/7 facility at Horndean Hampshire.
