Epotec novel infusion system for wind blades

Aditya Birla Chemicals Thailand Limited (Epoxy Division) has developed a Novel epoxy infusion system for wind blades.

The Epotec infusion system is based on alternative chemistry and has been developed exclusively considering the current and future material requirements for wind blades. The system offers multiple advantages over the conventional systems; it provides processing advantages in terms of slow viscosity development, longer working time and lower exothermic heat of reaction and performance advantage in rapid strength development on curing. These features will contribute in increasing the productivity by reducing the cycle time and reduce the defects, re-work time in blade manufacturing. The mechanical properties of the new system under static and dynamic loading conditions are comparable to the existing infusion systems used in blade manufacturing and the system has been approved by Germanischer Lloyd (GL).

“Wind blades are undergoing changes in design and also growing longer which necessitate need of matrix materials which are robust and can meet the changing process and performance requirements.  The new system offers optimum combination of process and performance properties and address the quality issues faced in manufacturing serving today’s and  future material needs of the blade manufacturer , comments Mr.Pradip Kumar Dubey , President of the company.

The Company will be making presentation on the Novel Infusion system in the ICS: Wind Energy Conference at the JEC Europe on 13th March 2013.
