Evonik organic specialty chemicals production started construction in Shanghai

Evonik held a groundbreaking ceremony last month in Shanghai for its organic specialty chemicals production project. This marks the official launch of this tens of millions Euros investment.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Evonik Chairman Dr. Klaus Engel emphasizes, “It can further consolidate Evonik status on the global market. It has fulfilled our commitment to the Chinese market as well. The investment is in line with our business strategy of focusing on the emerging markets expansion."


The detail plant engineering design has been completed, t he is expected to put into operation in 2013. The plant will produce variety special surfactant based on the renewable raw materials. These products are mainly applicable for personal care and home nursing as well as to other industrial applications. Products and services are serving China and Asia Pacific markets. The annual output will be 80000 tons. New plant will be built in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP) within the Evonik multi user base. It covers an area of about 33000 square meters.


At the same time, Evonik R&D center located in Xhenzhuang base of Shanghai also is undertaking an expansion. The investment amounts reached 23 million Euros. The expansion includes the construction of advanced research and development laboratory.


The R&D center is designed to expand the product application field. Together with the new specialty chemical projects and other Evonik Facilities, it enhances the application of technology and technical service. And it provides localized technical services to the customers in China and the whole Asia-Pacific region.
