JEC Europe 2014 - To meet the demand for new, very large composite structures for aircraft and space launch vehicles, Fives Cincinnati in Hebron, Kentucky, partnered with a customer to develop and fabricate a new machine platform that will combine the strengths of Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) and Automated Tape Laying (ATL).

The Cincinnati GEMINI dockable gantry system is the first in the industry to integrate ATL and AFP in a quick-change head application on a single platform. The hardware and software interfaces allow the user to utilize the strengths of AFP and ATL within the same ply, geometry permitting. With the Cincinnati GEMINI, tape laying and fibre placement heads switch out in minutes. This state-of-the-art platform is configured for multiple work zones and extremely long parts. It accommodates fixed-floor or rotation type tools in outer mould line or inner mould line formations.

Fives Forest-Liné, France, will present its most recent ATLAS ONE tape-laying machine, an economical solution for customers looking for a first-step investment for moderately complex surfaces and relatively flat surfaces.

A brand new process automation solution from Cinetic will also be presented: eADU (enhanced automated solution drilling units).

Fives Metal Cutting & Composites group is comprised of the renowned brands of Cincinnati, Cinetic, Giddings & Lewis, Forest-Liné, Liné Machines and Rouchaud.
