High-tex intermediate modulus carbon fibre

JEC Europe 2014 - Hyosung, a Korea-based carbon fibre manufacturer, is introducing an intermediate modulus carbon fibre (H3055-12k).

This fibre has a linear density of 725 g/km (tex) with a filament diameter of 6.5 micrometres. The higher yield provides increased productivity during the carbon fibre composite conversion process (e.g. prepreg, filament winding, pultrusion).

The tensile strength and modulus of H3055-12k are 5.5 GPa and 290 GPa, respectively. Composite test data show the fibre has the same properties as the previous "intermediate modulus" carbon fibre, with a linear density of 445 g/km.

To satisfy the growing demand for carbon fibre, that is forecasted to grow by 10-15% per year, Hyosung has now launched the production of high strength and intermediate modulus fibres with a combined annual production capacity of 2,500 MT per year.

By 2020, Hyosung will grow to become one of the leading manufacturers of carbon fibre. The company’s research and development will continue to build upon the existing fibre technology in order to bring new carbon fibre products into the market place.
