JEC EUROPE 2012 - The Institute of Plastics Processing at RWTH Aachen University (IKV) was founded in 1950 and is one of the largest institutes engaged in this field of research.

The Institute has more than 300 employees working on the problems encountered during the processing of the many different types of plastics that are now available. IKV is divided up into four specialist departments: Injection Moulding/PU Technology, Extrusion/Further Processing, Part Design/Materials Technology and Composites.

In the field of composites, processing techniques such as compression moulding, RTM, resin infusion, gap impregnation, pultrusion, filament winding and some special techniques are investigated. Modelling and dimensioning of composites also play an important role in IKV’s composite research.

A major focus of the presented innovations is the development of high-volume capable production processes for manufacturing structural parts with thermoplastic and thermoset resins.
