Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge applied composite material in anti-collision fender

Recently, CSR Zhuzhou Times New Material Technology Co., Ltd (Zhuzhou Times New Material) has developed composite materials anti-collision pier fender product.

This product will be used to install a thick layer of "protective clothing" in the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. This will effectively reduce the damage caused by ship-bridge collision that will improve the shipping and transportation safety.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is located in the Pearl River Delta. After the completion of the bridge construction, it will become an important road for land traffic. In the meantime, it crosses the world's most important trade marine passage (more than 4000 ships pass through the channel of dense waters every day).

Therefore, pier anti-collision technology has become the priority among priorities in the bridge design. To solve these thorny issues such as "large ship tonnage (10000 ton ship) and high sailing speed" and "strong sea water corrosion", it requires that the anti-collision device of The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge must have excellent energy absorption effect, high weather resistance, and larger product size.

Zhuzhou Times New Material anti-collision pier fender product has applied FRP (fiber reinforced plastics) composite materials. It used the vacuum infusion one time molding process with a "7" shaped final form. The maximum size is 7.8 meters long (equivalent to two story building), 3 meters wide, and 0.8 meters thick.

As early as in the year 2010, Zhuzhou Times New Material has initiated the research and development of pier anti-collision devices. They have established cooperative relationship with many domestic scientific research institutions. As of recently, the company has joined with those research institutes proposed and implemented nearly 20 bridge piers anti-ship collision schemes, during the time, they have also applied 6 relative Chinese patents.

The successful combination of composite materials and anti-collision devices has also marked Zhuzhou Times New Material has been in the polymer composite materials and building reduction (GE) earthquake has the capability to provide products and solutions for a full range of world class cross sea bridges.
