JEC Europe 2015 - At JEC Europe 2015, the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT) presents several innovations in the field of fibre placement and thermoplastic tape processing.

The Multi-Material-Head makes it possible to process thermoplastic tapes, thermoset prepregs and dry fibre rovings with binder within one single system. This tape and fibre placement head, which won a JEC Europe Innovation Award last year, is now presented as a ready-for-the-market solution that can be purchased including the complete equipment for tape and prepreg placement and winding, such as robot, liner and laser protection.

To enable the resource-efficient production of lightweight components, the Fraunhofer IPT and its partners from the E-Profit BMBF-funded project have developed an automated system that includes a process chain for the manufacturing of load- and waste-optimized tailored composite blanks. This highly integrated process chain is designed for large-scale series production in the automotive and transport sectors. The system allows the high-volume production of tailored composite blanks that can be subsequently processed by in-situ forming, trimming and functionalization.
