Flow International Corporation announces that John Force Racing, Inc., the most successful team in Funny Car drag racing history, has selected Flow International for their latest machine tool, a Mach 4 waterjet with Dynamic Waterjet XD.

Precision parts have been a critical component of this team’s success—17 time winners of NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car Championships and winning over 200 national events. They brought machining in-house a few years ago to ensure quality control, speed up production, and maintain their competitive edge by designing and manufacturing proprietary components.

As they looked into ways to increase their productivity, John Force Racing  (JFR) decided to purchase a waterjet to complement their CNC machining centers. They carefully considered several options and selected a Mach 4 waterjet from Flow International featuring Dynamic XD and a HyperJet pump rated at 94,000 psi. The Mach 4 system is the flagship of the Flow line of cutting tables.

JFR selected the Dynamic XD because of its highly precise capabilities. Flow invented Dynamic Waterjet® in 2001, bringing unparalleled accuracy and speed to 2D cutting. Cut speed is increased 2 to 4 times over conventional abrasive waterjets while producing parts with far higher precision. Now Flow brings that technology to bevel cutting and 3D parts with the patented Dynamic XD, enabling manufacturers to accurately cut a wide variety of intricate designs, often eliminating any secondary processing.

“In order to be the best, you need the best,” explained John Force, 1996 Race Car Driver of the Year. ”We need the best machine tools to help us design, build and maintain our Funny Cars in top condition. That’s why we selected a system from Flow.”

The waterjet will be housed in their 160,000 square foot Brownsburg, Indiana facility which currently houses the JFR museum, a race shop, a machine shop, a fabrication/chassis shop, and a paint shop.

“We’re proud to be partnering with John Force Racing,” said Fred Mooneyham, vice president at Flow International. “They are an exceptional racing team with a world class manufacturing environment to support them.”
