Magma Structures to sponsor Nick Cherry in Solitaire du Figaro 2013

Magma Structures has announced its sponsorship of British sailor, Nick Cherry, in the famous Solitaire du Figaro, the pinnacle in the annual solo sailing calendar, which starts from Bordeaux 2nd June 2013.

Magma Structures provide world-class structural engineering expertise and flexible manufacturing resources to deliver some of the biggest and most challenging global composite projects.

Nick Cherry is a 4 times British National Match Race Champion, runner up in the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race and keen Olympic 470 European regatta competitor. Nick joined the Offshore Sailing Academy in 2011 and is aiming to challenge for the 'best of British prize' in this year's Solitaire du Figaro event and a top half result in the tough fleet. The Solitaire du Figaro starts from Bordeaux on 2nd June 2013 and races to Porto, Gijon, Roscoff and finishes in Dieppe. Each leg is a demanding test of sailing ability and tenacity, with sailors snatching 10 minute micro sleeps during 60 hour legs.

Magma Structures specialises in the manufacture of 60m+ carbon composite rigs and has the unique ability to use a range of advanced manufacturing processes to ensure the optimum build method for each project. The company's capabilities include robotic tape laying, vacuum infusion, autoclave and controlled curing of laminates at elevated temperatures. The company also boasts a major in-house test facility, fibre optic strain expertise and structural monitoring systems and data analysis.
