The company has been selected by The Boeing Company to supply wheels and carbon brakes for all models of the Boeing 737 MAX — the 737 MAX 7, 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9. Carbon brakes will be offered as exclusive equipment on all 737 MAX models. Currently there are more than 1,750 orders for the new airplane with the first delivery scheduled in 2017.
Vincent Mascré, Chairman and CEO of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty said, “We are extremely pleased to deepen Safran’s relationship with Boeing on this flagship program. Carbon brakes have clearly proven their success on the Boeing Next-Generation 737, and are a natural choice for the cost, efficiency and performance requirements of the 737 MAX.”A long standing supplier of Boeing, Messier-Bugatti-Dowty offers carbon brakes for the 767, 777, Next-Generation 737 and 787 programs. Future 737 MAX operators will benefit from maximum design commonality on the brake, in order to make a seamless transition from the Next-Generation 737 to the 737 MAX.In addition to substantial weight savings, carbon brakes offer higher performance (better energy absorption) and faster cool down. Messier-Bugatti-Dowty carbon brakes average 2,200 landings per overhaul, approximately twice the endurance of steel brakes, contributing to lower operating costs for airlines.Today over 6,000 commercial jetliners are equipped with Messier-Bugatti-Dowty carbon brakes. For the past 10 years, this number has expanded on average by 10% per year.More information: www.safran-group.com
