Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. announced that it has completed construction of its epoxy resin and curing agent production facility in Itatiba, Brazil.

The development will produce epoxy resins and curing agents for large diameter wind turbine blades. The addition is being opened to better serve the growing wind energy market in South America.

"This strategic expansion further strengthens our leading market position in the global wind energy market," said Jody Bevilaqua, Executive Vice President and President of the Epoxy, Phenolic and Coating Resins Division. "We are excited to create this growth platform to leverage our Epikote/ Epikure epoxy systems as our proven technology enables the production of wind turbine blades that can exceed 60 meters in length."

For more than 25 years, Momentive Specialty Chemicals is involved in wind energy innovation by partnering with rotor blade and turbine manufacturers to increase electrical yield, decrease costs per kilowatt hour, and deliver the technology that make larger turbines and blades possible. The expansion was recognized by the Brazilian Development Bank, which focuses on providing financing for Brazilian machinery and equipment, as well as imports of goods of the same nature produced overseas.
