JEC Group have brought together the international community of composites leaders and executives in our Composites Circle as an unique networking opportunity to meet with both peers and future partners.
North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT) has drastically increased the production capacity for its multi-axial prepreg preforms since the new state-of-the-art Automatic Tape Laying (ATL) machine has become operational this month.
This technology makes it efficient to use thin prepreg plies down to 30gsm that offer improved composite strength and unique weight saving opportunities. The new ATL also allows processing more conventional UD tape up to 300gsm.NTPT’s range of prepreg products based on ThinPreg resin systems is used in a wide range of high-performance composite applications such as motorsports, marine/yachting, sports & leisure, aerospace and luxury goods. Using an ATL and a kitting strategy to produce the multi-axial prepreg is time- and moneysaving for composite molders, while the components they make show a definite gain in performance. The TPT ATL 3rd generation is extremely versatile and accurate and is able to reach a deposition rate of 120m2 per hour with a significantly greater potential, depending on specific processing conditions. The ATL can place pieces of tape in any position and process narrow and wide tapes (from 25 to 300mm) that are combined to create a customized form. With the assistance of the ATL, North Thin Ply Technology transforms the thinnest unidirectional prepreg tapes in the world into any possible preform, as there are no limitation in angles (0 to 360° with possible increments of 1°), number of plies, coverage or dimensions. The preforms of NTPT can therefore be made according to the design provided by the client or defined in collaboration between NTPT’s engineers and the clients’ technical team. In parallel, NTPT proposes a range of standardized bi-axial and tri-axial prepreg preforms packed in rolls 1250mm wide, especially adapted to motorsport, marine and sport & leisure applications. The introduction the new state-of-the-art ATL machine is in line with the further development of NTPT’s Automation and Industrialisation Solutions, a business that NTPT makes available to a wider market place, as well as providing a new outlet for NTPT’s industry leading prepreg products.About North Thin Ply Technology: North Thin Ply Technology develops and produces a range of prepreg materials including UD tapes from 30 to 300gsm, multi-axial preforms and machinable carbon fibre blocks. NTPT’s Automated Tape Laying technology makes it efficient to use thin prepreg plies that offer improved composite strength and unique weight saving opportunities. Thin plies are now used in a wide range of high-performance composite applications such as motorsports, marine/yachting, sports & leisure, aerospace and luxury goods.More information: www.ThinPlyTechnology.com
