JEC Europe 2014 - Langzauner offers an automatic mould changing system which reduces the cycle time to minutes.

While mass production is no longer an issue in Europe, customizing is becoming more and more important for most OEMs. The consequence is that most Tier 1 suppliers have to react on more diverse products with smaller lot sizes. To keep production costs efficient, it is very important to reduce setup times. In the field of stock removing machines, this has been very common for years. But now, this is becoming more and more interesting for operations with longer cycle times, e.g. in hot presses.

In most companies, heavy moulds are mainly handled via external lifting units (e.g. cranes) and the setup is also done manually. This operation can take up to an hour and is very unstable. Langzauner offers an automatic mould changing system which reduces the cycle time to minutes. The moulds are disconnected automatically, then unlocked, changed, locked and connected again with the press. With this system, SMED (single minute exchange of die) becomes possible, even with very heavy moulds.

Another advantage is the steadiness of the operation time. An unstable process is one of the most challenging difficulties in production planning, especially for customers who have to be supplied just in time.
