Polinox provides special peroxide for pultrusion

With an eye on this market, Polinox developed Brasnox MIBK, a methyl isobutyl ketone peroxide. Besides ensuring an excellent finish to the polyester or vinyl ester resin profiles, since it reduces the fiberglass markings, Brasnox MIBK has a lower cost compared to benzoyl peroxide commonly used by pultruders.

Despite the modest presence in the ranking of the composites manufacturing processes in Brazil – approximately 5% of the total, according to the Brazilian Composite Materials Association (ABMACO) – pultrusion is a very promising technology for the country, especially if taking into account the investments planned by Petrobras, perhaps the largest local consumer of pultruded profiles – they give shape to floor grids, handrails and stairs, among other products used on offshore platforms.

 


With an eye on this market, Polinox developed Brasnox MIBK®, a methyl isobutyl ketone peroxide. Besides ensuring an excellent finish to the polyester or vinyl ester resin profiles, since it reduces the fiberglass markings, Brasnox MIBK® has a lower cost compared to benzoyl peroxide (BPO) commonly used by pultruders. It is also worth it to point out that its combined use with Brasnox TBPB®, a traditional product of the company, speeds cure and increases productivity. 

 

Depending on the application type of the profile, some processors specialized in pultrusion rely on more conventional formulations, such as the methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) and BPO – both produced by Polinox. In the case of BPO, Polinox also provides a liquid version, called Perbenzox 40L®, which main appeal is a better index of homogeneity in the resin in comparison with the conventional product, supplied in paste.
