• Premier Composite Technologies (PCT) awarded contract to supply the roof and inner ceiling panels for the Medinah station of the Haramain High Speed Rail Project in Saudi Arabia.• Contract is signed with Yapi Merkezi - SBG Consortium who has been granted the turnkey construction of the Mecca and Medinah railway stations for the Haramain High Speed railway project in Saudi Arabia.• Roofing Panels and Interior Ceiling will be built out of advanced composite materials and will cover a surface area of 26,000m2. Production will commence in June.• Contract awarded after PCT worked successfully alongside architects Foster + Partners and Buro Happold during the design phase to develop a suitable fire retardant composite solution and 1:1 prototype panel.
Premier Composite Technologies, a leading global supplier of lightweight composite structures for the architectural market has signed a contract to supply the roofing and inner ceiling for one of the Haramain High Speed Railway stations – the Medinah Station.
Premier Composite Technologies will supply Yapi Merkezi – SBG Consortium, who has been granted turnkey construction of both the Mecca and Medinah railway stations for the Haramain project, with the advanced composite roof and interior ceiling panels for the entire surface area of 26,000m2. All panels will be built out of advanced composite materials so that they can be easily lifted into place and installed on site. Production at PCT will begin in June 2012.
The contract was awarded to PCT after they worked with project architects Foster + Partners during the initial design phase to create a prototype roofing panel built out of a composite solution that would simultaneously realize the complex architects designs, as well as pass all fire and safety regulations.
During this design phase, PCT manufactured a 1:1 prototype panel measuring aprox. 13m2, that was structurally built using a fire resistant sandwich of glass fibre and epoxy resin semi-preg combined with a lightweight core. 2048 of the panels will be required for the entire surface.
The Haramain High Speed Railway project is a 444km high speed intercity rail transport system that is under construction in Saudi Arabia. The railway network will link the cities of Medinah, Mecca and Jeddah via the King Abdullah Economic City.
Connecting each line, will be four railway passenger stations that will be based at each of the cities. Each of the stations have been designed by Foster + Partners, alongside engineering firm Buro Happold.
The signing of the contract with PCT follows the successful build and installation of the composite cladding, facades, clock faces and clock hands of the Dokaae Clock Tower, KSA, that was completed by PCT at the end of 2011.
